After several delays due to COVID, the Australian Jackaroos will take to the green for the first time in more than two years in a Trans Tasman Test Series against old foes, the New Zealand Blackjacks.
Queensland’s Club Tamborine will play host to the series from 2 - 6 June 2022.
The series will serve as an important warm-up for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, with the greens at Club Mount Tamborine adjusted to match the speeds the sides will face in England.
TRANS TASMAN
Queensland’s Club Tamborine will host the 2022 Trans Tasman in June as the Jackaroos return for their first test series in two years.
From June 2-6, 2022, Australia and New Zealand will do battle just a 37 minute drive from the centre of the Gold Coast in a jam-packed event that will see the complete open sides face off, as well as three para-bowls disciplines.
The club has been working diligently with Bowls Australia (BA) to replicate the speeds of the greens that the national squad will face at Lemington Spa for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
With green speeds up north considerably slower than the Southern Hemisphere, the Trans Tasman will provide valuable experience for both the Australians and their Blackjack counterparts who will be striving for gold come July.
February 2020 was the last time a Trans Tasman series took place, which coincidentally is the most recent Jackaroos outing due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
Australia won five of the six tests across the event to take home the trophy, and will hope to add more silver wear as the old rivals will once again do battle.
It will be National Coach Gary Willis’ first outing in the position after a year in the role, and he is counting down the days until the tournament kicks off, as well as being extremely grateful to Club Tamborine Mountain for playing host to the two nations and assisting with the greens.
“The Trans Tasman is one of the most treasured international events for the Jackaroos squad and I am looking forward to getting the team together for their first competition in over two years,” Willis said.
“It has been a long time between events and I am sure that each player will relish the opportunity to again wear our beloved green and gold.
“I would like to thank Club Tamborine Mountain for their work in recent times, assisting us to replicate similar green speeds to what we will face in Birmingham next July. Their support has been tremendous and this opportunity will provide us with valuable
